While I did copy a few recipes, I mostly liked this book for the helpful tips that were provided -- everything from dealing with dried beans to chopping up a butternut squash to peeling and deveining shrimp, etc.

One thing that I thought was missing or this book could have used more of was pictures. There were some scattered throughout, but I really like to know (or have a general idea) of how something is supposed to look when it is finished. Unfortunately, many of the recipes were just that an

Recommends it for: fans of the slow cooker such as yours truly!
Finally, after two other slow cooker cookbooks, this third one by America's Test Kitchen, I know that I shall be using. I love using my slow cooker, and I have been looking for a good slow cooker cookbook for quite awhile. All parts of a dinner are included from beginning to dessert, and the authors threw in some ideas for a brunch. Well done & I am finally very pleased. 41/2-5 stars! ...more

I expected to find a lot more recipes I was excited about in this one than I did. I tried the cod peperonata. It was fine. I was kind of eyeing the sesame ginger chicken and sweet potatoes, but not enough to hang onto the book.

I've been crockpotting for a long time so none of these recipes were new or groundbreaking for me but the photos were really nice and this book includes a lot of good tips for food prep and tool use.

Huge book of recipes and tips as how to get the most out of your slow cooker. Good pictures, although not all recipes have accompanying pictures... That was really the only downfall.

A very thorough cookbook for any type of slow cooker appliance. The introduction, Slow Cooker 101, is a must read. The tips and information can be incorporated into your own personal recipes.

Too many times the recipes are continued on the next page; which means I have to turn pages back and forth when cooking. I'd rather have all of the ingredients and instructions included on the two pages open to me.

However, there were more than a dozen sticky tabs marking recipes I'll be adding to my own personal library: Cranberry-Orange Chicken, BBQ Rubbed Chicken in a Pot, Turkey Breast with Cherry-Orange Sauce (to name a few). Also, there are tips and tricks Notes throughout the book any cook will benefit from.

I've only made one (delicious) recipe from this cookbook, but we're planning on buying a copy for our own kitchen. It has such depths of recipes, easy to follow instructions, and helpful tidbits. I will agree with others in saying that I wish it had more pictures. I've only made one (delicious) recipe from this cookbook, but we're planning on buying a copy for our own kitchen. Glad I borrowed this from the library instead of buying it. There are very few recipes I want to try. Too many of the others include ingredients I can't eat or can't find. I had to change my rating. I found some recipes that seemed good and want to try, but when it came to trying to make it, it was a whole different story. The ingredients amounts do not match with the directions section. In the ingredients section will say use 1 teaspoon of oregano, but in the directions says 1 1/2 teapson of oregano. The directions seem very confusing, especially if you're new to cooking/crock pot. Even someone who knows what they are doing, questioned it and had to think how to I had to change my rating.
